Meet the Chiefs Night Begins Winter Season

On Friday evening, the Dee-Mack Booster Club hosted a Winter Meet the Chiefs event at the Mackinaw High School. The evening started at 5:00 P.M. with an introduction to the Mackinaw High School band, who then played the National Anthem followed by the Dee-Mack School Fight Song. The Spirit Team was also introduced, followed by the Scholastic Bowl team. Next, the wrestling team rolled out 2 of their mats and the 8 wrestlers split off into pairs and gave Dee-Mack fans a quick exhibition of the drills they run during practice, before being introduced. The wrestling team is coached by Timothy Thomas and their first meet is on Tuesday November 30th, at 5:30 P.M., at home.

Coming up next were the Girls Junior Varsity Team, who played a 2-quarter exhibition game and were individually introduced. Their season is slated to start on Monday November 29th at 5:30 P.M. in LeRoy.  Following the JV team came the Girls Varsity Basketball team, under the direction of Coach Nightingale. They also split into 2 teams and played a 2-quarter exhibition game. Their season started on November 15 against Porta.

The Dee-Mack Boys Basketball teams also took to the gym to play 2 quarter exhibition games against themselves. The Varsity team is directed by Coach Brown and their season will begin Monday November 22nd with a tournament being held in Peoria Heights. The Junior Varsity team is coached by Ryan Thornton and Friday November 26th, in a tournament hosted by Peoria Christian School.

Also happening at the Winter Meet the Chiefs event was a silent auction fundraiser with items donated largely by local businesses. All proceeds go into the “Peer Pals” account to fund activities and events that focus on community-based interaction and achievement throughout the year.
