OHS Weekly Sports Recap

Monday afternoon the Spartans’ week of sports got started with the baseball team travelling to Shelbyville for the Regional Championship. Shelbyville came into the game with a 20-3 record and the top seed in the regional. In a close, hard fought game, the Spartans season unfortunately ended after losing 3-2. The team showed a lot of improvement throughout the season and had a great season. Seniors Andrew Nichols, Ethan Davis, Ryan Cleinmark, and Hayden Stork were all selected to the McDonalds All Star Game. 

Tuesday afternoon, the softball team hosted Kewanee in the first game of sectional play. The Spartans have been rolling this postseason, winning their third regional championship in a row. The team stayed hot in this sectional game against Kewanee, coming away with the win 7-2. Kennedy Smith led the Spartans at the plate going 3-3 with a walk. Casey Wismiller and Kyla Birky also had multiple hit games to send Olympia to the Sectional Championship game on Thursday. 

On Thursday, the Spartan softball team played the Sectional Championship game against the Rockridge High School Rockets. This matchup brought the #1 state ranked Rockets to Stanford to play the #3 ranked Spartans. The Rockets would end up taking the victory and winning their second Sectional Championship in a row. The game was a tough battle for the Spartans, ending by a score of 11-2. The Spartans softball team had an incredible season, finishing with a record of 20-4. The girls also had all four of their seniors, Chloe Scroggins, Mariah Maris, Bree Marrow, and Kennedy Smith be selected to play in the Pantagraph All Star Game. 

Thursday also brought the Spartans to the boys Sectional track meet. The track team has had a great year and was looking for many State qualifiers in this Sectional track meet. The Spartans lived up to the hype, having four different events qualify for the State meet. Freshman, Chase Litwiller, qualified for state in high jump, the teams 4x8, ran by Owen Dare, Brad Schardan, Carter Fairfield, and Alec Pfeffer, also qualified, Senior Charlie Kistner qualified in the two mile, and the 4x4, ran by Brad Schardan, Alec Pfeffer, Carter Fairfield, and Justin Siebert also qualified. The Spartans are looking to continue their great season into the State meet and bring home some hardware.
